Sikkim, the beautiful eastern state of India famous for its natural beauty & art craft & woolens. Now the state is in news for going Organic. Yes the state government has plans to turn whole state to a organic state. Under which no chemicals pesticides & fertilizers will be used.

Organic farming combines ecologically-sound modern technology with traditional agricultural practices including crop rotation, green manure and biological pest control to ensure reduction or total elimination of chemical inputs. In several parts of Sikkim, farmers have succeeded in growing completely organic maize, paddy, ginger, cardamom and turmeric while expanding the practices to other horticultural crops.
By 2015, state will be totally a organic state. Government will help farmers by providing consultancy on organic farming & will also help in marketing their produce to a national level.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between FIBL Institute of Organic Research Centre of Switzerland and Agriculture department of Sikkim for a long term partnership in which the department will receive technical support from the institute on research and training and other possible knowledge on organic farming.
